Caroline King on Living and Teaching ISHTA
We’ve extended the Early Bird Deadline for our Upcoming 200-Hour Summer Intensive Teacher Training. Below, Caroline King, ISHTA 500-Hour Teacher Training graduate, sheds light on her transformative experience living and teaching the ISHTA path.
Like many of my ISHTA Teacher Training classmates, I joined the 200-hour training because I loved yoga and the ISHTA approach. I had a more than full-time job, and didn’t necessarily look at the training as a ticket to a new career. Fast forward 2 years and I am a 500-hour graduate teaching a community class at ISHTA, one private student and a weekly class at my office where I work full-time. I love my job and doubt I will leave any time soon. But everything about how I do my work, treat myself and others, navigate our political climate and order my priorities has been influenced by the teacher training and my connection to ISHTA.
The 200- and 300-hour training are impeccably designed and executed by a staff that takes very seriously their responsibility to uphold the ISHTA lineage and mentor teachers who can bring the gift of yoga to the world. Even after the 200- hour I had the necessary tools to teach responsibly. The curriculum and methodology have been honed over many years and it shows. The manuals are treasured references that I dip into all the time. And as a graduate of the teacher training I am part of a global community of teachers and yogis who share their experiences of integrating ISHTA practice into their lives on and off the mat.
Perhaps most important for me is that ISHTA honors the individual. There are as many ways to be an ISHTA practioner as there are students. Being part of the big ISHTA tent makes my life better every day.
