Pranayama means “to extend and direct the life force energy.” Pranayama calms the nervous system, stretches the breath, and focuses the mind. The balancing effect of pranayama techniques can either calm an anxious state or energize a lethargic state, depending on an individual’s condition. In this workshop, Yogiraj Wendy Newton will share some of the basic Pranayama techniques from the ISHTA 200-hour Teacher Training which can serve to enhance your living and support a daily meditation practice. Come expecting to learn more about the techniques shared every day in ISHTA classes. This workshop is open to beginners and people of all levels.

Studies have shown that having a daily meditation practice can help lower blood pressure, increase digestion, decrease stress and anxiety, and increase job performance. In this workshop, Yogiraj Sarah Finger will share with you some of the foundational meditation techniques that are offered in the ISHTA 200-hour program. In this Kirtan, ISHTA Yogiraj Peter Ferko is joined by critically-acclaimed musician and yogini Idgy Dean for a unique, modern take on this traditional practice. Employing the instruments and style of 60s psychedelic surf rock and folk music, this kirtan will include a set of chants performed call and response, each one directed at a specific energy, to bring balance, insight, and wisdom into our lives.

In this workshop, Cassandra will lead you through a sequence to prepare and inform the body for a wide array of inversions (headstand, forearm stand, handstand and variations of them). You will learn techniques to condition the body for the strength and flexibility required of these poses that you can integrate into your daily practice. Step-by-step instructions for each posture will be provided, aimed at dissolving confusion or fear and creating a hopeful and playful space for students of every level. Expect variations accessible to beginner students, as well as those with a more developed practice.

The gong bath is an immersion in sacred and healing sound. Listeners typically experience a sense of connectedness and peace as the sound of the gong clears blockages and restores the free flow of vital energy throughout the body. With its ability to induce a spontaneous meditative state, the gong offers listeners access to parts of the mind that are usually closed, resulting in a sense of expanded awareness and higher consciousness. Gong sound can be used to rebalance and tone the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies. It is an excellent therapy for stress related issues, depression, fatigue, anger and hostility, feelings of fear, separation and loneliness, along with many other conditions related to the lack of balance and harmony in the body.

Have you always wanted to try yoga, but assumed you weren't flexible enough? Have you been to some basic yoga classes but left feeling overwhelmed because the class wasn't "basic" at all? Then come to this beginner’s orientation, and you will learn that yoga is about enhancing the quality of your attention and equanimity, not torturing the body into wild contortions. We will break down the alignment of some basic yoga postures to build strength and flexibility. You will experience how linking your breath to movement can help to create a meditative focus. The workshop will conclude with the practice of savasana, where you can deeply relax, and recharge yourself for life off of the mat!

This workshop is designed to help release excess vata from your body and mind. The practice, including the asanas, pranayamas, restorative poses and yoga nidra are selected to quiet and calm the nervous system and bring stillness and clarity into your fall. The practice will begin with gentle asana to release tension from the hips, lower back and joints where vata tends to accumulate. The focus in the asana will also be to slow down and remove any holding patterns in the breath. The restorative pose selected will help slow down the mind and let go of any anxiety and fear held in the body. The practice will end with a thirty minute long yoga nidra designed to release excess vata. Through out the practice, visualizations, essential oils and gentle hands on adjustments will help guide you to a place of deep stillness.

Sri T. Krishnamacharya, believed that Yoga was India’s greatest gift to the planet. He broke with the binding customs prohibiting the teachings to women as he not only believed that women would benefit greatly in their healthcare, but that women were to be trusted as pure transmitters of Yogic teachings. In this 3 hour class we will discuss women’s health and hormones, common health misnomers around women’s moon cycles and practice the principles of hatha yoga that greatly enhance women’s health during the three stages of a women’s life, menstruation, pregnancy and menopause.

Emotions can be our greatest teacher. They have a way of whispering, or sometimes shouting, when we are aligned or disconnected with our Truest Self. Just like mangos, they need to be consumed and then through the assimilating process of digestion, use what is needed and release what is no longer nutritious.
