A practice designed to help cool us down and surrender when we’re feeling overheated, easily aggravated and on overdrive In the Ayurvedic system we are made up of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. We each have our unique mix of these elements that make up our physical and mental constitution. Disease is caused when there is an imbalance in the mix of these elements from our unique mix of these elements at birth.
The seasons, as well as our lifestyles and stresses, affect the mix of these elements. In the summer the fire element tends to increase – we call this a pitta condition. When our pitta is in excess we feel overheated, we tend to get irritable more easily and we tend to continuously push ourselves. We have trouble surrendering and can be harsh critics of ourselves and others. In this workshop the asanas, pranayama, restorative poses and yoga nidra are all selected to release excess heat from the body, breath, and mind. The practice will begin with gentle asana to release tension from the abdomen where excess fire accumulates. The focus in the restorative postures will be on cooling down and releasing any holding patterns in the body, breath, and mind. The practice will end with a forty minute long yoga nidra designed to release excess pitta.calming and cooling us on a physical. mental and emotional level. Throughout the practice, visualizations, essential oils and gentle hands on adjustments will help guide you to a place of deep surrender.
