Asana, Kirtan & Meditation with Yogiraj Peter Ferko & Psych-Rock Yogini Idgy Dean
Everyday we begin again, but the first day of the new year is a potent time to walk the talk and sing aloud our intentions. This New Year’s Day, literally ring in your resolutions with Kirtan, a Bhakti yoga practice that uses musical chanting to alter a yogi’s energy. The repeated use of the chanted mantra reinforced by the energy of a group is a powerful tool for transformation and for bringing an immediate sense of well-being.
In this kirtan, ISHTA Yogiraj Peter Ferko is joined by critically-acclaimed musician and yogini Idgy Dean as Psych Rock Kirtan, a unique, modern take on this traditional practice. Employing the instruments and style of 60s psychedelic surf rock and folk music, this kirtan will include a set of chants performed call and response, each one directed at a specific energy, to bring balance, insight, and wisdom into our lives. You can hear Psych Rock Kirtan on the new album Shiva | Shakti at psychrockkirtan.bandcamp.com. Peter and Idgy will open the workshop with a gentle asana practice to wring out tension in the body, and close the afternoon with a resonant relaxation. This event is suitable for all levels of practitioner and does not require any special musical or other skill. Come enjoy the sonic ride!
