The Power of Touch: Why In-Studio Yoga Teaching Isn’t Complete Without It

by Mona Anand

As yoga teachers, we understand that true transformation happens not just through words—but through presence, connection, and sometimes, the subtle power of a single hand placed with intention.

That’s why The Art of Touch training, happening this weekend, is one of the most essential trainings for any yoga teacher teaching in studio. This four-day immersion (Friday through Monday) is designed to give you one of the most powerful tools you can bring into your classes and privates: the ability to guide students into deeper awareness and correct alignment through hands-on adjustments.

Why is touch so powerful?

In the post-pandemic world, students are craving the kind of personalized attention that online classes can’t fully provide. More often than ever before, I hear from students who say, “I was practicing online but I’ve come back into studio because I need my alignment corrected and because I miss the energetic connection of an in studio class.” And when I ask a class, “Who wants hands-on assistance?”—nearly every hand goes up.

This training teaches you how to make that connection meaningful and safe. You’ll learn how to:

  • Use touch to help students discover muscles they’ve never accessed before—or help them relax muscles they’ve never been able to let go of.

  • Offer subtle cues through physical contact that bring awareness and alignment to specific areas—like resting a hand on the shoulders to soften tension or placing a hand on the back ribs to invite expansion and lift.

  • Spot and assist with advanced poses like handstand in a way that supports students accessing them safely and for the first time.

But The Art of Touch isn’t just about helping students—it’s also about evolving your own practice. As teachers, many of us have been in our bodies for years, yet hands-on adjustments from someone else can offer a kinesthetic awakening that verbal cues never quite reach. Feeling your body in true alignment—through another’s skillful touch—can be transformational.

So many teacher trainings today are online. They may be convenient, but they miss this key piece. In-person, hands-on training is irreplaceable when it comes to learning how to see and adjust bodies in space and to support them energetically.

If you teach in studio, learning hands-on adjustments is not just recommended—it’s an essential teaching tool.

Join us this weekend. Learn to speak through your hands, connect more deeply with your students, and take your teaching to an entirely new level.

The Art of Touch: Starts Friday. Runs through Monday.
