This six module course provides an empowering platform for students to approach and digest the Yoga Sutras from the perspective of Tantra. We will read, practice, and integrate some of yoga’s most foundational wisdom and begin to understand how it affects us in our lives as practitioners and teachers.

Wendy spent six years working closely with Alan Finger on Tantra of the Yoga Sutras, an interpretation of the Yoga Sutras that is accessible to contemporary practitioners of yoga and resonant resonant with the tantric underpinnings of ISHTA Yoga. The new Tantra of the Yoga Sutras course will be offered in six modules.

Each module will include:

  • A somatic yoga, pranayama, and kriya practice to tune the body-mind to listen “beyond the mind”

  • A lecture on pre-assigned topics from the Sutras

  • An in-class reading/writing/reflection exercise and demo

  • In-class discussion that empowers practitioners to trust personal insight

  • Exclusive access to prompts for practices and journaling assignments that you can upload directly to the teaching tool for Wendy to review

  • Receive feedback from Wendy in live-streamed discussion sections held Fridays between modules

Module 4 is up next! Vibhuti Pada – The Power to Change How We Perceive and Engage in Life, 1 - 5 pm.

While Sadhana pada is all about learning the steps to orient toward unbound intelligence, Vibhuti pada is about how to stay connected to that unbound intelligence as we turn our attention back into the world of everyday actions and experiences. This ability to stay connected as we drop back into a state of focused awareness is called samyama.

In this state of samyama, we are filled with insight, creativity, and new ways of seeing old challenges. We might notice changes in ourselves and how our lives play out because we are able to modulate and respond to the life experiences we are actually having instead of the ones that we think we should be having. These are the siddhis, the psychic transformations that are deeply unique to each of us and that we find, as we channel unbound intelligence into our living, can transform our lives in unexpected ways.

Module 1: Yoga as Philosophy and Practice – The Cyclical Nature of the Four Padas, Sunday, May 19, 2024 1:00-5:00 pm, (Online). In the ancient world, yoga was understood as a philosophy that was also a practice – which is to say, a practice that gets us in touch with our metaphysical nature. This module helps students develop a solid platform that inspires the confidence to go deeper into the four padas and create a personal understanding of what the philosophy and practice of yoga really is. Module 1 is a pre-requisite if you are signing up for all six modules, or the full Tantra of the Yoga Sutras Course.
